Only true costume designers are capable of creating original and ever-changing works, respecting the Carnival theme while simultaneously giving place to their creativity.
Francesco, a master tailor and immensely creative mind, has been creating the costumes used for years to present the Maria of the Year to the community, following the closed-door election in the magnificent Teatro della Fenice.
To bring creativity, while respecting the past, back to the center of the Carnival, together with Mariagrazia Bortolato, patron of the Festa delle Marie, they have created a photography contest showcasing the Marias of past editions alongside the current ones, in a unique sign of continuity. We are publishing the images not in order of year of proclamation, but in stylistic chronological order, to demonstrate how history is not a cage that blocks creativity, but rather an ancient language for expressing the contemporary.
