For many years, Atelier Pietro Longhi has approached Carnival as a phenomenon rooted in diverse cultures—one that takes on many forms yet shares a common anthropological foundation, even across vastly different and distant contexts.
At the invitation of the organizers of the Tenerife Carnival—one of the most renowned traditional carnivals—Francesco will participate in a symposium alongside representatives from the carnivals of Rio de Janeiro (Brazil), Luanda (Angola), and Águilas (Murcia). The event will explore Carnival as a form of high-level craftsmanship and a cultural industry that blends creativity, tradition, and innovation. It brings together a wide array of skilled professionals—from costume designers, performers, directors, set designers, and choreographers to technical crews handling lighting and sound—as well as the administrative bodies responsible for adapting daily life to these large-scale, city-wide events. Through the collaboration of all these parties, the festivities become an opportunity to disseminate culture and generate economic activity.
