Soul of Venice

Summarizing the passion, culture and craftsmanship of different artists in a short film is not a simple thing; Tiemo Weidmann succeeded: the hands of Francesco Briggi created a baroque costume using Rubelli fabrics, of which both manual and mechanical looms were shown, lace from Martina Vidal, the most important manufacturer of Venetian lace, a hat specially made by Anna Zappella, the hatter of the Atelier Pietro Longhi.

To complete the dream of the Venetian guest, the actress Bettina Andriolo, Francesca Ceccamore of Kartaruga created a Bauta and finally Nardi, the only Venetian high jewelery atelier, lent some spectacular jewels inspired by originals preserved in the Poldi Pezzoli Museum, demonstrating that already in 1700 the carnival was inspiration to produce unique pieces!

Perfect places to describe Venice’s soul in all its eras are the Heureka hotel, where tradition meets contemporary design, and the Scuola Grande San Giovanni Evangelista, the symbolic building of the Venetian Renaissance.

Thus a perfect concert was born, thanks to the harmony whose soul is Venice with its beauty.

St. Francis, the Saint from Assisi

Happens that hard works becomes an opportunity to develop a method which then marks a way of operating for everyone.

Thanks to the request for a philological reproduction of the habit that belonged to Saint Francis, we got in touch directly with the “La colombina” weaving mill of Badoere which supplied itself with raw yarn from the Lanificio Paoletti, and in this way we were able to use the Saint’s habit follow the entire production chain.

Once the fabric was obtained, Francesco analyzed and reproduced the cut of the original habit, and this is how a true philological copy of the original dress was created, faithfully reproduced in all its characteristics, even in the missing parts.

The habit will be on display until January 7, 2024, alongside the costumes from the film “San Francesco” by Zeffirelli, belonging to the Cerratelli foundation, and some rich original vestments, as well as works ranging from Caravaggio to the Gentileschi, from the Middle Ages to the present day .

The Silk Road

Fashion is a language, the oldest we known! In the prehistoric graffiti the roles of the people represented are understood thanks to the richness of the stylized clothes and feathers that shows power and luxury.

For this reason, to describe the most ancient relationship between the Serenissima and the East, the import of the precious silk, Francesco Briggi developed a long story of fashion and cultural exchanges born thanks to this precious material. The result was an evening at the Filanda Romanin Jacur, organized by the Pro Loco of Salzano, where we talked about fashion and its evolution. The Festa delle Marie supported the event and the Marys 2022 wore the precious dresses giving them life under the eye of Mariagrazia Bortolato.

Hundreds of years of technological evolution, from the invention of the loom to the jacquard machine up to the mechanical looms capable of reproducing precious fabrics and airy lace. Years of exchanges, from when the silk yarn arrived from the East until, having stolen the secret in a daring way, we began to produce, spin and work the most desired yarn ever.

Fashion culture that becomes cultural entertainment: this is knowing how to talk about fashion stories!

(Italiano) Festeggiando la rinascita!

Thanks to projects developed and carried out with agencies, directors and artists, from the halls of the Royal Palace of Turin or in the palaces overlooking the Grand Canal or the Lungarni, in less than two months the costumes of the Atelier Pietro Longhi have brought joy and spirit Venetian in the heart of guests from all over the world!

Festa delle Marie: new costumes!

Even the oldest tradition of the Serenissima wanted to celebrate Venice’s birthday by renewing its precious costumes.

The model is inspired by portraits of Paolo Caliari, the Veronese, in deference both to the 1600 years since the mythological foundation of Venice and to the most fruitful era of the city, the Renaissance.

Francesco Briggi, using precious fabrics offered by Tessitura Rubelli, has created the 12 dresses for young girls, who carry on the prestigious tradition under the watchful eye of Mariagrazia Bortolato.

Exhibition of historical costumes by Atelier Pietro Longhi, made by Francesco Briggi and curated by Raffaele Dessì

Info and reservations on www.pietrolonghi.com

The exhibition “Fashion Stories” will show for the first time all the social classes that lived in the Serenissima, thanks to cross-sections of the carnivals over the centuries. The propensity of the Scuola Grande to welcome representatives of all social classes, with a large presence of women, a very rare reality in the past, inspired the birth of an exhibition that was not limited in its description only to the high classes, usually in the center of the studies given the quantity of documents and the speed with which the shapes of the clothes changed.

The prestigious venue, unique in its kind and preciousness, the summa of Venetian Baroque architecture and art opens its doors to Francesco Briggi tailor of the Atelier Pietro Longhi, who made all the clothes with their accessories, and to Dr. Raffaele Dessì who oversaw the entire exhibition in terms of contents and set-up, allowing the creation of the exhibition “Fashion Stories – Carnival tales”. This exhibition tells the story of Venice through one of the most important characteristics of its material culture: clothing and the materials connected to it.

In 20 costumes, faithfully reproduced by Francesco Briggi from original documents or taken from paintings by the most important Venetian painters, it is shown how much trade first and then manufacturing art, linked to fashion, were the fundamental engine for the development and affirmation of the Venetian myth from the Middle Ages to the mid-1700s, up to the present day with excellences that are exported from the lagoon all over the world.

Three periods were examined: the early Renaissance, with the representatives of the “compagnie di calza” (stocking companies), followed by a section of the early 1600s, ending with a section dedicated to the famous Venetian Carnival of 1700, the engine of the rebirth in the ‘ 80 of the last century.

A selection of costumes that represent almost four hundred years of Venetian traditions, tales and stories, to be enjoyed together with the beauty of the Scuola Grande dei Carmini.

Smanie per la moda

25th of February
The halls of the Scuola Grande San Giovanni Evangelista will host an original comedy that arises from the combination of several extracts from Goldoni’s works on the theme of fashion. Clothes are not only described in the directions, but often become the protagonists of entire comedies: “The yearnings for the holiday” revolve around the wardrobe of the two protagonists, the “bona mare” never misses an opportunity to film the son who mistreats his clothes , to then buy them new ones while making sacrifices, and in the “Rusteghi” the differences in the role of the protagonists in Venetian society are outlined by their clothing.

Drawing inspiration from the numerous staging for which the Atelier Pietro Longhi provided the costumes, Raffaele Dessì decided to combine several comedies highlighting a fundamental characteristic of Goldoni, its bringing back daily life, a possible reality, on Italian stages. and French. The scene will revolve around Carlo Goldoni, his deeply in love wife Nicoletta Conio and their hosts, the Centani family.

It will be the actors of the company “La Bautta” to give life to the characters. The company was founded in 1995 and in a short time becomes more and more a privileged interlocutor in the programming of theatrical seasons in various regional areas and in general in the realization of wider national cultural events.

Vivaldi’s documentary at Museum of Palazzo Grimani

21st febbraio
Museo di Palazzo Grimani, castello 4858
First show 3pm, second show 5pm
Costi: price 12€ reduced 2€
Please note: the show will be in Italian language, no subtitles.

Vivaldi’s music embodies three of the fundamental ingredients of the Italian style: imagination, emotion and temperament. For this reason the Venetian composer is now known all over the world; his music is played everywhere, from elevators to opera stages, as adapted to techno and rock concerts as performed by purist ensembles. Vivaldi is acclaimed everywhere as the “pop star” of classical music, yet the man behind the scores is still an enigma. Little is known about his life, but in recent years more and more documents have emerged that shed light on his personal history.

For the first time, a documentary, broadcast on German and French television in prime time with millions of viewers, analyzed the life of the mysterious “red priest”. The film shows how he managed to make his way from Venetian theaters to the wealthy European aristocracy, playing for the Pope and the Emperor, describing his rapid rise and abrupt fall that ended in Vienna. Venice, the protagonist of the documentary as the muse of the great musician, is the background of the journey through time of the opulent European Baroque, a look at the genius personality. A story of sheet music and intrigue of the first “Rockstar” in the history of music.

Eike Schmitz – director: founder of Atlantis-film is a documentary maker who has been producing and directing documentaries distributed on the German national network and various national European networks for over thirty years. From the most powerful rulers of all time to the most famous swindlers, passing through architects, musicians and explorers, there is no story worth telling that Eike has not deepened and transformed into a journey through time and in the places where they really are. events have happened. Nature and history are its distinctive note, perfection and culture its characteristic feature.

Raffaele Dessì – Consultant: thanks to his preparation that ranges from music to art, from philosophy to science, moved by a boundless curiosity and a culture in continuous formation, for years he has been offering consultancy for the production of cultural events, careful reinterpretation of documentary screenplays, preparation of film sets. Now in his third experience with Atlantis film, which is in addition to those with National Geographic, Arté Francia, Rai Storia, Canale 5, he is now engaged in drafting a text on the evolution of Venetian architecture in its staterooms.

Francesco Briggi – costume designer: On November 26, 1994 Francesco began his adventure in the world of costumes by opening the Pietro Longhi Atelier. Over twenty-five years of satisfaction, fear and sharing with the thousands of customers and friends who from all over the world encourage him to continue in this splendid adventure by exporting Francesco’s creations to the stages of national theaters, palaces and public and private collections. Years of study and continuous maturation, during which the innate taste was flanked by increasingly refined tailoring techniques and the rediscovery of a cut forgotten for centuries recovered not only with patience, but also with the innate ability to adapt history to the body today. The research on the cut is flanked by that on the materials, which are usually of Italian production and often artisanal and precious, thus combining the tailoring study with the safeguarding of the territorial specificities that Francesco must recreate.

Palazzo Grimani confirms itself as a place of dialogue between different forms of art and in particular for the encounter with ancient Venetian music and its protagonists. Musical patrons and theater builders, the Grimani were among the protagonists of the Venetian panorama also in the eighteenth century, with the figures of Giovanni Carlo and his son Michele. The palace used to host performances and shows and therefore the melodies of famous composers resounded even then in its halls.

Lepanto 1571 – 2021

Lepanto 450

Promoted by ” Rialto mio”, with the patronage of the Veneto Region, on Saturday 16 October 2021, was commemorated the arrival of Sebastiano Venier in Venice after the victory in the naval battle of Lepanto.

History has given numerous readings to this event. So we decided to recall a moment of history, to stimulate discussion and reflection on the Venetian naval capacity and on the importance of the ports of the Serenissima in the Mediterranean Sea after the discovery of the Americas.

The celebration was divided into three main moments: a conference held in Vicenza, where various scientist illustrated the scenographic machines created to celebrate the winner and the victory, followed by the triumphal arches in marble (still present in Vicenza) and the numerous paintings celebratory that still embellish salons throughout Europe. This was followed by a meeting where the mayor of the city of Messina (the first port that welcomed and sheltered the ships of the Holy League) and the representative of the city of Lepanto talked about their relationship with the memory of the battle, which took place. concluded with a great historical reenactment.

Sixty costumes made in a philological way by Francesco Briggi, following the descriptions of Grevembroch, Pagan and Vecellio, were worn by as many reenactors, each with its own role. In this way, for the first time more than 200 years after the fall of the Republic of Venice under the artistic direction of Dr. Dessì, directed by dr. Giusto, the ducal procession of the Serenissima has come back to life in its late 1500s form, the golden age of the Venetian Renaissance.

In the halls of the Scuola Grande di San Rocco, in Castelforte San Rocco and finally at the Basilica dei Frari to end in the Scuola Grande San Giovanni Evangelista, the procession of the Doge and that of the Dogaressa have developed paths and positions as the rigid ceremonial of Venice would have required. Renaissance, offering the public and scholar a stimulus for deep study about Venetian culture.

Venice 1600 Reborn

1600 is the culmination of the Venetian Renaissance, but is also the years since the foundation of the Serenissima. This is how birthday and rebirth coincide, and Heureka hotel decide to celebrate Venice, but also all those who love it.

A party out of the ordinary, where fire and water have come together. Where a young Europe asks Venice how to lead people in peace, and the Serenissima teaches her to appreciate gifts, to enjoy exchanges without preferences. Vulcano, Neptune, Venice and her heralds will build a better present for young Europe, looking towards the future of rebirth, with a surprise ending. After a walk through Venetian streets and squares, the doors of the Scuola Grande della Misericordia opened to welcome us, and then toast in the most original square in the entire city!

Venicessence

There is no better way to celebrate Venice’s birthday than to remember the great innovations and projects that were born in the lagoon.

We provided the costumes for some videos shot for Bottega Cini and The Merchant of Venice  about the great Venetian perfumers.

The history of perfume and spices in Europe is inextricably linked to Venice, and as often happened in the city, women were protagonists and entrepreneurs who developed projects whose repercussions we can see till today. The first protagonist is Maria Agyros, granddaughter of the emperor of the Eastern Roman Empire and then a Byzantine princess, who brought the use of perfume to Venice. The second Isabella Cortese, the first who took care to create real beauty creams and perfumes, mother of modern cosmetics, and finally Caterina Gennari, who, distilling grappa in the city, gave her nephew the idea to make the first cologne , ancestor of all modern perfumes.

Three short videos, with texts edited and read by Pieralvise Zorzi, directed by Tommaso Giusto for Veneta Video, with costumes and accessories made by Francesco Briggi.

Streaming Carnival!

Carnival 2021  was very strange. For safety reasons, carnival could not be held in Piazza San Marco, but we all needed joy and lightheartedness. So, since most of the activities were already traveling on the internet, Vela made a courageous decision: to create a digital schedule that would allow all Venice Carnival lovers to experience the most awaited party of the year!

To Atelier Pietro Longhi was asked to create fashion stories that reflected the spirit of the carnival, and so we found ourselves telling our “fashion stories” in a light way. Paying attention to respect the spirit of each era, but at the same time saving the Venetian carnival and opening the space that hosted it, Ca ‘Vedramin Calergi.

Francesco Briggi was almost every day in the studio and told live anecdotes and participated with his proactive and ironic spirit, in the creation of memorable moments, combining culture and sartorial skills with entertainment!

On our Instagram you can find all the clips in the album history in evidence: Carnevale 2021!

Among the stars with Galileo Galilei

A month of filming in Veneto, Tuscany and Lazio to follow the most important scientist of all time: Galileo Galilei. He introduced the scientific method, in a society where censorship opposed scientific innovation. In the Baroque Italy of Bernini and Borromini, among the innovative works of Caravaggio, the noble Galileo lived in several courts. Among which the Medici’s , the one of the Doge of Venice, and Pope Barberini’s, the protector who abandoned him to build the “Baroque Rome”.

A long documentary, commissioned for Atlantis Film, will be distributed on the ZDF and Arte channels, was written and directed by Eike Schmitz, with interviews by Sybille Aderi, Raffaele Dessì, Tim Florian Horn. A big challenge for Francesco Briggi who had to create costumes that showed an evolution of fashion of almost eighty years in an Italy that was changing the history of art, architecture and painting. Thanks to his knowledge and culture, he showed that Atelier Pietro Longhi remains a point of reference for international productions as an ambassador of Venetian craftsmanship, taste and quality.

Voyage into great beauty: Venice

No more than a year ago, due to the pandemic that devastated the life of the entire planet, we had to change the way we live, communicate and create culture. In July 2020 we were involved in the first major post-pandemic production that was made in Italy, concerned a cultural program that brought museums and collection that were closed to the public into the homes of Italians. Thanks to Cesare Bocci, the RTI production, the director Roberto Burchielli and the authors of Real Life Television has therefore taken shape the episode on Venice of the “Viaggio nella grande bellezza” (Voyage into Great Beauty), broadcast on channel 5, with a maximum share that exceeded 10%. right in the part dedicated to the important city museum.

Dr. Dessì developed, in agreement with the production and the authors, a different way of presenting the fashion of the second half of the 1700s and one of the most important museums in the city, leaving the academic role wearing clothes and accessories that would bring the viewer directly to the baroque period. Paintings, furnishings, original architecture together philological reproductions of clothes and accessories therefore presented an era that from Ca’ Rezzonico, the XVIIIth century museum in Venice, then moved to the café that most of all represents serenissima: the Florian, which in 2020 celebrated its 300th anniversary.

For the presentation, special costumes were used, designed and realized by Francesco Briggi thanks the choice of each material and detail: the satin and silk lampas of Rubelli were flanked by the silk and cotton damasks of Como, the ancient hand-made laces to the glass micro-bead embroidery of the ‘impiraressa Marisa Convento. Dresses born from a choral work to show how costume is the art that involves all manufacturing traditions and the taste of a people, and at a single glance it is able to recreate and explain a culture that would otherwise be impossible to show.

An extract of the episode can be seen by following this link:

Unfortunately the premiere was canceled due to having to comply with the laws regarding the containment of the spread of Covid19, but the happiness of having dreamed of such a beautiful project together that will be the bridge for new experiences remains!

Carnival 2020… a foolish experience

An foolish and atypical carnival, that of 2020, which we will certainly remember for a long time! Started with great enthusiasm and desire to forgot the high tide of November 2019, it ended two days in advance due to the great pandemic that changed the habits of the whole planet. Yet Venice, which is the city par excellence that over the centuries has been able to deal with environmental disasters and plagues, has not counted damage, and the carnival leaves us only beautiful memories.

The memories began in the square, with the fly of eagle: a crazy samurai bearer of a love message, welcomed by a beautiful carnival godmother who embodied the baroque spirit of the carnival with its unique beauty and sympathy! The stage, animated by the Pantakin company, dressed in the spectacular clothes of Francesco Briggi, cheered up for almost two weeks from the most famous stage in the world. Could not miss the cultural appointment with the “Marie del Carnevale”, who were able to exclusively visit the Museum of Palazzo Grimani, and finally two private events organized inside the city hotels … Our chocolate is unfortunately skipped, but this pushes us to think about that for next year, which will be even more spectacular and fun!

Let’s retrace our memories together, here and on our facebook and Instagram pages!

A precious collaboration

After the 1966 flooding the American community founded an association that had as its goal the recovery of funds to restore works of art of the martyred city.

Once the emergency was over, the foundation decided to carry out other restoration projects, widening the number of members to all lovers of Venice, adopting works of art that needed urgent maintenance and restoration, to bring them back to life thanks to the spontaneous commitment of supporters.

This year there was a new “Acqua Granda”, a fooding. Like 53 years ago, on November 13th, Venice woke up on its knees. Many historic buildings damaged, most of the city’s artisan realities unable to continue their work.

You can imagine with how much pride we announce that, on the proposal of the Foundation, a part of the rental of the carnival costumes for the associates, will be devolved to the Foundation that will use them for interventions in Venice.

Atelier Pietro Longhi, always attentive to Venetian know-how and culture, is therefore happy to announce this precious collaboration, because by saving the intangible asset “Carnival”, it will contribute to the rebirth of Venetian material goods that build  the dreams of people all over the world.

We moved!

The Atelier Pietro Longhi costumes warehouse has temporarily left the Venice Historic Center to approach the laboratories, which for the past seven years have been located in Noale.

It was now impossible to manage the large clientele of the tailor’s shop, the rentals for the numerous productions in the mainland, the exhibitions that are continuously organized on the national territory and the numerous fairs that Francesco and Anna animate throughout Europe. The movement of costumes with their accessories created too many transport and logistics problems. Naturally in February 2020, in conjunction with the carnival, the entire Pietro Longhi Atelier will return to Venice, in the most prestigious of the venues, the Scuola Grande San Giovanni Evangelista, where you can find us with all our products for sale and rent from February 3 to 3rd March.

Customers who do not reach us at fairs or flea markets will be able to find our products on the e-commerce website

www.aplshop.it

It is possible to visit the headquarters in Noale, where in addition to production there is a small showroom, but it will be necessary to make an appointment. The contacts remain the same, so for any information we are at your disposal!

See you soon, Francesco, Anna and Raffaele.

… so l’et’s shape our desires, transform them into reality in the city where everything is possible! Marble palaces built on the water, frescoes that continuously change shape and colors thanks to the reflections of the lagoon.

Venice is the only place where you can be yourself wearing clothes from other eras: you can  be a medieval knight who fights dragons and wins battles, a Renaissance lady with rich clothes, or a baroque courtesan with her company of worshipers.

In Venice dreams are reality and Atelier Pietro Longhi offers everyone the chance to dream!

(Italiano) il corteo dogale

The Atelier Pietro Longhi is the only private atelier that can boast the entire reproduction of the Venetian Dogal Court of the second half of the 1500s.

Taken from the famous print kept at the Museo Correr in Venice, over 80 costumes recreate the most important moment of the Venetian public ceremony. of the Renaissance, when the Doge showed himself with his triumphs in Piazza San Marco.

Exposed twice in public, the first time in Pordenone, the second in the halls of the Scuola Grande San Giovanni Evangelista, requiring large spaces. For this reason usually the entire exhibition was chartered for historical re-enactments, thus giving life to completely made clothes and accessories by Francesco and Anna Briggi.

(Italiano) Carnevale 2019, una riserva di emozioni!

The 2019 Carnival loves the  Atelier Pietro Longhi’s costumes.

With great pleasure we have dressed the actors of the theater company “Pantakin da Venezia”, a group of great professionals that every day, thanks to a decade of experience, managed to animate the most famous stage of the most famous city in the world.

This year the carnival opened with the flight of two angels, and Francesco created the “Angelo guerriero” (Warrior Angel) a warrior suit that has a particular meaning because it was worn by Micol Rossi, ex Maria of the Carnival, who asked to make this flight for to be able to give visibility to her illness, bringing the courage to smile and face life to the sky above Venice, even though life also reserves us nasty surprises.

The Sunday after the official carnival continued with the dressing of the Eagle: Arianna Fontana, an Olympic sportswoman with the most prestigious medal for Italian winter sports. A girl who, despite the determination necessary to win numerous competitions, has not lost her human side, and with kindness and expansiveness: she has given smiles, photographs and hugs to the Piazza San Marco that hailed her!

As per tradition, the Venice carnival closes with the proclamation in Piazza San Marco of the Maria of the Year, dressed in a fifteenth-century style dress made by Francesco Briggi. Linda Pani gave the appointment next year to a packed square that greeted “Messer Carnovale”.

Our thanks for sharing these moments goes to Vela and to all the immense staff behind the organization at the world event which is the Carnival of Venice (believe us, there are so many very good professionals and great people who work behind the scenes of a perfect machine from every point of view. The changes are continuous, linked to the safety of the visitors, but also the help they give to the press that make requests from all over the world, so as not to forget the evening events that are held in the Vedramin  Calergi palace, the ambassador of Venetian fun in the world where everyone has to be perfect. But carnival is also Vesta, which manages the cleaning of the Piazza, and the security that makes thousands of people stay safe in the most beautiful “dance hall” in the world). How can we forget Red Bull, who offered us hours of music with DJs who came from all over the world to play in the Piazza that in the evening rediscovered his young and goliardic spirit. And Mariagrazia Bortolato with her “Marie del Carnevale”, and the entire city of Venice, represented by the Mayor, tightened around Francesco’s creations making the 2019 carnival unforgettable. Now we are waiting for you in 2020, from 8 to 25 February!

(Italiano) “Storie di moda”

Ten years have passed since the first edition of “Storie di moda”, born from an original idea of Francesco and Raffaele that over the years have involved sponsors and institutions to show the Story in a different way. Through the lenses of fashion, the history of Venice, its architecture, its art, its wars and political changes have been known, from the Middle Ages to the present day.

Thanks to the encyclopedic knowledge of fashion and its evolution, other temporary exhibitions have developed from Korea to Argentina, with different themes, such as the symbols of power in Europe, for which precise studies have been done as well as on clothing on jewelry and iconography of different eras. But also of Napoleonic uniforms of different periods and degrees, so as to show the variety of uniformology to its dawn, or single pieces made to illustrate an era to complete a broader discourse.

The atelier therefore offers the complete service of developing a project or supporting an existing project. Historical materials and cutting tare used o explain, in an alternative way, different moments of human evolution, in every aspect and social class.
