Corrente artistica improntata sulla libertà l'art nuveau (liberty in Italia) fu caratterizzata dall'eliminazione dei bustini per le donne a favore di forme simili a quelle considerate "greche" arcadiche. La figura della donna, ormai al naturale, veniva riproporzionata da ampi cappelli piumati con velette o tozzi cappelli alti, nei quali si riversava tutta la fantasia delle modiste.
